About Del Maguey

Del Maguey (pronounced ma–gay), Single Village Mezcal was founded in 1995 by internationally renowned artist and mezcal visionary, Ron Cooper. Ron introduced the world to previously unavailable artisanal mezcal produced the original handcrafted way. Through deep cultural relationships with native Zapotec Mexican producers in the remote villages of Oaxaca and Puebla, Mexico, Del Maguey harnesses ancient, original organic processes. Combining these methods with varying micro-climates and terroir gives each creation its own unique, rich, sweet and smoky character. Every product in our collection is made by individual family palenqueros (producers) in old-style villages. They are the first producer to credit each product after the village where the mezcal is made.

About Your Host – Max Monroe

Originally from Southern California, Max Monroe has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last 12 years. Spending most of that time working as a bartender at various establishments in San Francisco, Max became captivated by agave spirits from Mexico. An avid fan of tasting spirits and studying cocktail history, Max is a graduate of BAR’s 5-Day certification program. He has been working with Del Maguey since 2018 and covers the Northwest United States. Max lives in Bernal Heights, San Francisco with his wife, Liz and daughter, Marlena.

The Magic of Michoacan, Dinner and Mezcal Tasting

A one-of-a-kind seminar featuring small plates and mezcal from Michoacan. Learn the tradition and culture behind mezcal with SACRED.

Osito’s Tap is proud to welcome La Luna Mezcal for a special dinner and tasting during Mezcal Week. Chef Moreno & Diana will be creating a menu that has been influenced by the cuisine of Michoacan, rich with avocados, pork, and cheese. And you’ll get to taste all of the influences in the amazing mezcal that La Luna offers from that same state.

You’ll be walked through a tasting of six neat mezcal that explain not only the traditions of mezcal in Michoacan but also the reason that mezcal has grown in popularity around the world in recent years. The tasting will be led by SACRED founder and Agave Road Trip cohost Lou Bank, who won the Golden Spirit award for his 2018 Tales of the Cocktail presentation, “So you think you know mezcal…”

In addition to tasting La Luna’s critically acclaimed spirits neat, you’ll also be treated to a couple of cocktails that will help explain what makes mezcal cocktails so unique. Each guest will also receive $5 off any La Luna Mezcal purchased that night at Morenos Liquors.

In order to promote social distancing this event is limited to 20 people in our outdoor patio area. Please use the event map to choose your spot. We have tables to accommodate groups of two, three, and four, and each table is distanced six feet apart. Masks are required whenever you aren’t sitting and we ask you to please use our complimentary hand sanitizer.

Mezcal Tasting

The Sin Gusano Project promotes the diversity and heritage that exists within the world of agave spirits, while broadly encouraging a more conscientious form of consumption.

Splitting time between the UK and Mexico, we source micro-batches of craft spirits from different distillers, run a roaming pop-up mezcal bar, and operate Europe’s only agave spirits subscription – the Mezcal Appreciation Society (MAS).

This particular tasting event is in collaboration with our friends and Hacha Agaveria in East London. As well as providing the space, the team at Hacha will serve a welcome drink (their award winning mirror margarita), and some Mexican snacks.

There will follow a curated tasting and presentation by Jon Darby – Sin Gusano Project founder – featuring agave spirits sourced by him and not available elsewhere. Some will from the range of branded Sin Gusano spirits, and some will be even more rare expressions from Jon’s personal collection, built during years of mezcal exploration throughout Mexico.
